Comeback of the Bears
Published in Paperback by Klarus Syndicate (05 October, 2000)
Authors: James Brooks, Ron Campbell, and Bill Bledsoe
Average review score:

warm and tribal
A real "page turner", COMEBACK OF THE BEARS, offers an abundance of surprise, style and irreverence for the politically correct and not so correct. The novel's hero, Johnny Kill Dear, encounters the bears of the Smokey Mountains and faces the question of which world, red or white, to embrace. The pace and overlay of madness and mystical charm and chaos helped me get a fix on having a lot more fun in the too often constipated process of trying to be a concerned and effective citizen. Balancing, challenging the absurdities of entrenched patterns of human (and not just human) nature and allowing the depth of the past to speak through uncommon heroes, James Brooks uses sex, violence, sports, technology, profanity and more to feed your soul. Character development fights its way through heavy overlays of sometimes indulgent details and macho cleverness.. Yes, I wrote this in the oral surgeon's chair waiting to have a wisdom tooth extracted . Read on. Ready for more, James . Write on!

My "almost" three year old loves it!
My daughter just loves this book. Her Daddy has to read it to her every night before bed. She loves lift-the-flap books in general, but this one really seems to catch and keep her attention. I will be buying all of the books in this series for her birthday in a couple weeks!

A very cute book for Easter Time!
I like this book a lot. I bought this for my son, 18 months. I like Corduroy a lot and so does my son. This is a fun book to read as you can do a lot with the child whilst reading it (ie) you can pretend to be a slide with your legs, you can sing "rain rain go away" and much more. It's a fun book and the illustration is simply great with dolly and bunny. My son loves is, so do I!

Crocheting Teddy Bears

Authors: Barbara Jacksier and Ruth Jacksier

One bear makes this a great book!
I like several of the bears in this book but one really stands out. The design for the Shaggy Bear is fantastic. He is a 14 inch bear done in a loop stitch. In addition to looking great he is stitched using a size "P" crochet hook! Quick to make for a last minute Christmas gift or to make in bunches for your favorite charity. I also liked the Panda Bear. The Honey Bear, the Koala Bear, and the Polar Bear are crocheted using chenille yarns and are also very nice. There are also patterns for fabric clothing to put on the bears. The clown suit is really cute.

Cyrano the Bear
Published in Hardcover by Dial Books for Young Readers (May, 1995)
Author: Nicole Rubel
Average review score:

The Nose Knows
This richly illustrated Western retelling of "Cyrano de Bergerac" is fine fare for youngsters 3 to 9. Cyrano, in this scenario, is a sheriff with a somewhat large nose, and an even bigger crush on the belle of the town, Roxane, the sheepish (literally) librarian. Trouble is, Cyrano's deputy, Wolfie (yes, he's a wolf) has a thing for Roxane as well.

But that's not Cyrano's only problem: The Gila Monster Gang (umm, they're Gila Monsters) comes in a-shooting up and robbing the town. The story proceeds loosely along the lines of the original (with some action and sarsaparillas thrown in for Western authenticity) as the amorous but shy Cyrano writes poems for Roxane, signed by Wolfie. But, when the Gila Monster Gang threatens to rob the train at Purple Rock River, Cyrano (with the agility and power of a Kobe to Shaquille dunk) uses all his talents to capture the gang and win Roxane's heart.

I think Roxane puts it best: "Cyrano! Your great nose has taught you to be courageous, but your poetry has lassoed my heart!" Highly recommended!
